Client Success Story: Overcoming Iron Deficiency and Reclaiming Hair Health

Discover Paula's inspiring journey overcoming iron deficiency and hair loss with personalized nutrition

Paula had always been proud of her hair. Long, luscious and shiny, her hair used to radiate health. Now, she couldn’t even brush her hair without anxiety – she was terrified seeing patches of her hair coming off her head every day.

As a healthy young woman in her mid-twenties, Paula had never experienced hair loss issues before.

“I was in grief,” she said. “When someone told me they experienced hair loss, I never thought it would be me one day. I didn’t know what was wrong with me and what to do next.”

Connecting the Dots: Discovering Iron Deficiency

At first, Paula blamed her sudden hair loss problems on the poor water quality or sun exposure in the summer. She swapped shower filters, invested in luxury hair care products, and dabbled in various hair treatments, desperately seeking a solution. But her hair kept shedding.

After doing some research, she realized her attempts at fixing the issue with cosmetics were useless. She wanted to finally take control of her health. That's when she went to get the Randox “Everywoman” blood test to get a comprehensive analysis of her body functions, including thyroid health and the current micronutrient status.

“When I got my results back, the pieces of the puzzle started coming together,” she said. Thankfully, her thyroid hormone levels were optimal. Thyroid dysfunction could have been a potential risk factor for her hair loss issues. Meanwhile, her blood test revealed another issue – her iron levels were extremely low.

That was an important discovery in her hair loss battle. When her physician reviewed her results, he concluded that hair shedding might be attributed to iron deficiency anemia.

According to research, low iron levels may indeed affect hair health and potentially lead to hair loss. When iron levels are below normal ranges, hair follicles become weaker because they're deprived of oxygen.

To optimize her iron levels, along with other micronutrients, Paula sent her blood test results to Bioniq. Based on her blood test results, Bioniq created a personalized 54-component supplement formula especially for Paula’s current micronutrient status and body needs. In addition to iron, Paula’s personalized formula included other essential vitamins like B12, biotin, and folic acid, aimed to add additional benefits for her hair and skin health.

A Valuable Lesson: the Power of Preventive Health

After completing a 3-month course of her personalized Bioniq supplements, Paula retested again to check her health progress. The results showed a positive dynamic – her iron levels increased significantly, now falling within a normal range. Other essential micronutrients, like vitamin B12 and folic acid, were optimized as well.

At around the four-month mark, Paula noticed the shedding slowed down significantly. “Brushing my hair just felt normal again,” she said.

By the six-month milestone, she finally witnessed the progress she was striving for – the new baby hair started growing again. After seeing her physician, he confirmed that she had a good hair growth activity on the spots where she previously experienced shedding, even though her hair was still thin. It would take Paula a few more months to see her hair recover completely. But she finally felt empowered to be on the right track, she said.

Paula says this journey taught her a lot about the importance of preventive health. Getting regular health checkups and blood tests can reveal any imbalances in the body right at the start, when you can take easier actions to prevent it.

“From now on, I will get a blood test every year,” she said. “I don’t want to panic anymore. I want to know what exactly is going on in my body.”

Magnesium for Heart Health

Magnesium is essential for heart health, playing a key role in regulating heartbeat, controlling blood pressure, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, and preventing blood clots. A magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle cramps, fatigue, anxiety, high blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat. Factors like poor diet, digestive issues, certain medications, and excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to low magnesium levels. Boosting magnesium intake through a diet rich in leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, or via supplements (after consulting a doctor), can significantly improve cardiovascular health and overall well-being.
